Local Student Shines on Global Stage at Chinese Bridge Competition

Leon Canaj Oelfke, a talented Chinese Immersion student at New Century International Elementary School, is making international headlines!

After winning first place in the U.S. Eastern Region Chinese Bridge Competition in May, Leon recently traveled with his parents to China to compete in the world finals against 80 outstanding students from across the globe.

With determination and skill, he achieved an extraordinary finish in the top 15 worldwide. His success is a testament not only to his hard work but also to the dedication of his Chinese teacher, Zhifang Liu, who has guided and supported him throughout his journey.

Leon’s accomplishment is an inspiring example of the global opportunities that language learning can open for students right here in Cumberland County Schools.
