Upcoming CFA Session: Kindergarten Showcase 101 on Facebook LIVE
Parents of upcoming kindergarten students across the county are being encouraged to tune in to Cumberland Family Academy's (CFA) 'All Things Kindergarten’ in Cumberland County Schools. This CFA Facebook LIVE session, featuring CCS' Executive Director, K-12 Academic & Instructional Systems Dr. Theresa Perry, will provide families with the necessary information to enroll new Kindergarten students for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year. A Q&A session will be open to viewers. CCS Students & Employees Looking to 'Purple Up!'
April is the Month of the Military Child when Cumberland County Schools recognize the sacrifices military-connected students have had to make. From April 15-19, the district is observing Month of the Military Child Spirit Week. On Friday, April 19, students and staff across the district are planning to observe CCS Purple Up! Day by wearing a purple shirt and showing their support of military-connected children.

Kindergarten Showcase 2024!
The district proudly announces Kindergarten Showcase 2024! It's an opportunity to welcome incoming kindergarten students, The Class of 2037, and their families. As part of the Showcase, there will be two district-wide Kindergarten Orientation Nights in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year. Local elementary schools will host events on Tuesday, April 23 or Thursday, May 2, between 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. At this time, families will get the opportunity to complete registration forms, meet teachers, tour classrooms and schools, and much more. The orientation date for each school as well as additional information is available on the CCS website.

Brayden Lambert, a fourth grader at Stedman Elementary School, recently clenched an Exemplary Project Award at the NC Science and Engineering Fair state competition, which took place on the campus of NC State University. His project titled ‘Stuck in the Muck’ was entered under the Engineering/Technology category which posed the following question: What material would best stop an out-of-control vehicle going down a steep mountain?
Congratulations to CCS' Elementary Battle of the Books (BoB) teams from Ashley Elementary School (3rd-place winners), New Century International Elementary School (2nd-place winners) and E. Melvin Honeycutt Elementary School (1st-place winners)! In the coming weeks, the Honeycutt Elementary team will travel to Clinton, NC, to compete in the Elementary BoB Finals.
John Griffin Middle School recently hosted a Women’s History Wax Museum that involved 13 young female middle schoolers. Under the direction of School Social Worker ShaNya Bandy, these students had the opportunity to pick a woman of their choice from history and tell about her while portraying her as a live statue. Some of the Women in History they chose included Ruby Bridges, Anne Frank, Michelle Obama, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Women’s History Month, which is an an annual observance that highlights the numerous contributions of women in history, is celebrated throughout March.
