April 9 Board of Education Meeting
The Cumberland County Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m.
on Tuesday, April 9. The meeting will be open to the public via live-streaming available at https://www.youtube.com/@CumberlandCoSch/streams, and there will also be capacity-limited seating available to members of the public. During the meeting, citizens may share their public comments in person only. As always, each comment is limited to three minutes with a total of 30 minutes set aside for public comments. Individuals requesting to share public comments during the public comment period may sign up using the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/ZGa8Q33DJMo3D9tH3, which will be accessible starting at noon on Tuesday, April 9, and remain open until 5:30 p.m. No walk-up sign-ups will be allowed. Citizens must sign up electronically in advance of the meeting before the aforementioned deadline. Documents, attachments and presentations to be considered or received by the Board of Education will be available for review by the public at the BoardDocs site, which may be accessed through a link appearing on the Cumberland County Schools homepage under BOARD OF EDUCATION (BOE), at www.ccs.k12.nc.us. This meeting will be held in the Central Services Boardroom, located at 2465 Gillespie Street Fayetteville, NC 28306.

The ICON (Innovative Career Opportunities Now) Summer Internship Program allows Cumberland County high school students who are at least 15 years old to apply for and interview to work in paid positions for six weeks this summer. This work-based learning program shares an educational approach utilizing the workplace to provide students with the competencies and skills that allow them to connect school experiences to real-life work activities through career exploration, exposure to the real workplace, and achievement of work readiness skills. During Read Across America Week (March 2 -6), Kansas City Chiefs Player Joshua Williams stopped by J. W. Coon Elementary School to read a story to kindergarten students and attend an assembly with third through fifth graders. He encouraged the students to always do their best in school and to keep working toward achieving their goals and dreams.
Recently through the North Carolina State Livestock Evaluation CDE, Gray’s Creek High School's FFA (Future Farmers of America) participated in the livestock judging in Raleigh and returned home with the title of State Champions! The senior team placed 1st overall in the state 'punching their ticket' to the Nationals competition. And, the junior team placed 3rd overall in the state.
Congratulations to Cumberland County Board of Education (CCBOE) Member Carrie Sutton! She was recently given the 2024 North Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators (NCABSE) Local School Board Award for establishing progressive policies and practices to support all children in Cumberland County Schools.
