March 25 Parent Advisory Council Meeting The Exceptional Children's March Parent Advisory Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 25 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. in the Central Services building, located at 2465 Gillespie Street, Fayetteville, NC 28306. The topic of this month's meeting is Child Find. Families will learn more about the provision of services for parentally-placed private school children with disabilities. Empowering Families: How to Advocate Effectively for Your Child
The next Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) session will focus on strategies to help families stay actively engaged in their child's educational journey and effectively advocate for their needs. This CFA Throwback Thursday session, titled "Empowering Families: How to Advocate Effectively for Your Child," features Dr. Lindsay Whitley, the associate superintendent for Communications and Community Engagement. This session will stream on the district’s Facebook page at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 28. Families of children who will be 4 years old on or before August 31, 2024, and who live in Cumberland County are encouraged to register online at letsgetenrolled.com. Priority will be given to families who complete the registration process by March 31, 2024.

The ICON (Innovative Career Opportunities Now) Summer Internship Program allows Cumberland County high school students who are at least 15 years old to apply for and interview to work in paid positions for six weeks this summer. This work-based learning program shares an educational approach utilizing the workplace to provide students with the competencies and skills that allow them to connect school experiences to real-life work activities through career exploration, exposure to the real workplace, and achievement of work readiness skills. During CCS' High School Battle of the Books Competition on March 5, three high school teams participated but the team from Massey Hill Classical High School clenched first-place honors! They will represent the district at the regional competition on March 27 in Lumberton, NC.
In celebration of National School Breakfast Week (March 4-8), CCS Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr., dropped by Westarea Elementary School to express his gratitude to the school's Child Nutrition staffers for their dedication, hard work and delicious breakfasts that fuel young minds daily! #NSBW
Congratulations to the Reid Ross Classical School (RRCS) Concert Band students for receiving a Superior rating at their March 5 Music Performance Assessment at UNC-Pembroke. The RRCS Concert Band received the highest score possible from all four judges! This was the first time these student-musicians have attended this assessment and the first time RRCS was represented at the MPA since 2015.
