Cadets Display Skills and Teamwork at First-Ever JROTC Field Day
JROTC teams from across CCS joined together at South View High School for the event
Fayetteville, NC – JROTC teams from across Cumberland County Schools (CCS) gathered at South View High School today for the district’s first-ever JROTC Field Day. Teams participated in multiple events, including squad drills, relay races, tug-o-war, an obstacle course, and more.
Teams from Douglas Byrd, Jack Britt, Westover, Pine Forest, Terry Sanford, South View, Seventy-First, E.E. Smith, Cape Fear, and Gray's Creek participated in the event, which provided an opportunity for Cadets to work together as a team and showcase the skills they are learning in JROTC.
“Today’s Field Day highlighted JROTC programs across CCS and how they are teaching Cadets leadership skills, how to communicate effectively, the importance of mental and physical wellness, and how to work together for a common goal,” said Ruby A. Murray, SGM, USA Retired and JROTC instructor at South View High School. “Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event.”
The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, or JROTC, is one of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth in the world. The program is in 10 high schools in CCS with more than 1,200 Cadets participating this year.
