Fayetteville, NC -- With only two years of experience in the classroom, Cumberland County Schools' 2024 Beginning Teacher of the Year Sade' Mangum is already making her mark in education.
NCCAT 2024 Empower Beginning Teacher of the Year Finalist
The Seventy-First High School Social Studies teacher was recently selected as a finalist for the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching's (NCCAT) 2024 Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award. She is one of 27 finalists from across North Carolina vying for the top honor, which will be presented on February 15, 2024, on the campus of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC.
The NCCAT Beginning Teacher of the Year winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize, the opportunity to participate in a GoGlobal NC trip in 2025, instructional supply funds for the teacher's school and a piece of fine jewelry from Diamonds Direct.
The NCCAT 2024 Empower NC Beginning Teacher of the Year Award process was developed to honor beginning teachers and to retain teachers who show promise as excellent teachers and education leaders in North Carolina public schools and public charter schools.
2023 Carolina Panthers Teacher of the Year
In a stadium full of onlookers, Mangum was also recently recognized as the 2023 Carolina Panthers Teacher of the Year! At the end of the first quarter of the January 7 Carolina Panthers versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game on the field of the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC, she was presented with a $5,000 check to purchase school supplies for her classroom.
Nominated by her peers, students and friends for her exemplary work, Mangum also received two tickets to the Carolina Panthers game, a Panthers prize pack, an autographed item and a personalized Panthers jersey.
The Carolina Panthers Teacher of the Year Program, presented by Bank of America, recognizes teachers who are making a difference in their community.
