Aisha Wilson Middleton
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is thrilled to announce Aisha Wilson Middleton as the recipient of the prestigious 2023-24 School Psychologist of the Year award. Middleton's dedication to students and unwavering commitment to their well-being have made her an outstanding choice for this honor.
Middleton's journey into school psychology began over a decade ago. Her passion for helping students reach their full potential has never wavered. After obtaining her undergraduate degree from Winthrop University in 2009, she earned her master's and specialist degrees from Francis Marion University in 2013. Middleton's unique path to becoming a school psychologist started at a young age when she was adopted and met her new big brother. Growing up with him and experiencing his diverse needs profoundly influenced her career choice.
Over the past 11 years, Middleton has dedicated her career to making a difference in students' lives. Her initial four years of service were in Scotland County, North Carolina before she found her calling in CCS. For the past seven school years, Middleton has been a valuable member of the Douglas Byrd District, contributing significantly to improving school-wide behaviors.
Middleton's commitment to enhancing the educational experience extends beyond her daily duties. She has played a pivotal role in implementing the CHAMPS (Conversation, Help, Activity, Movement, Participation and Success) classroom management program, contributing to improved classroom management and stronger student-teacher relationships within the Byrd district. Middleton's expertise is highly regarded as she has also shared her knowledge by delivering presentations on this effective program to various schools throughout the county.
Middleton embodies the core values of CCS. She believes every child deserves the best education they can receive and every parent or guardian deserves to be fully engaged in understanding the educational needs of their child. Her goal is to serve individuals with unique needs, ensuring every student receives equitable access to engaging learning.
Outside of her professional life, Middleton enjoys watching horror movies with her husband and child and baking cakes for friends.
Lisa Craver, psychological services coordinator, praised Middleton, saying, "She is a consummate professional with a deep passion for each student she works with. Middleton supports her colleagues and doesn't hesitate to help out when needed. She is a shining example of what a school psychologist should be."
Cumberland County Schools is proud to recognize the exceptional contributions of Aisha Wilson Middleton to the school community.
