N.C. TOWERS Members to Build Small Wind Turbines, Discuss Offshore Wind with Reid Ross Classical School Students
WHAT: North Carolina Department of Commerce Secretary Machelle Baker Sanders and members of the NC Taskforce for Offshore Wind Economic Resource Strategies (NC TOWERS) along with middle and high school students from Reid Ross Classical School will build small working wind turbines and discuss job opportunities in the growing offshore wind industry in North Carolina. The turbine kits are being provided by TotalEnergies, holder of one of two leases issued by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) for offshore wind development off North Carolina’s southern coast.
Students from the school’s Green House Club will also give a tour of the greenhouse and 'show off' the work they have done to beautify the school grounds to taskforce members including, Taskforce Chair and N.C. Department of Commerce Chief of Staff Marqueta Welton.

The quarterly NC TOWERS meeting will be held Thursday, August 10 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville Technical Community College Regional Fire and Rescue Training Center, located at 775 Tom Starling Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306.

North Carolina is uniquely positioned to attract a potential $100 billion in economic investments and tens of thousands of jobs from the responsible development of offshore wind in the state.

NC TOWERS was established by Governor Roy Cooper in 2021 to provide recommendations on ways to advance the offshore wind energy industry in North Carolina, with a special focus on job creation and economic development.
