CCS' 2023 Graduation Ceremonies Media Event
Members of the Media have been invited to cover Cumberland County Schools' 2023 Graduation Season on Monday, June 5 at 8:00 a.m. in the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum.

Interested members of the Media are asked to arrive @ 7:30 a.m. for E.E. Smith High School's (EESHS) Graduation Ceremony.

Media with credentials will enter the Crown through the West VIP entrance. A rep from CCS Communications will escort them to the Coliseum floor (behind the blue hockey dashers) to photograph or videotape EESHS' graduation ceremony, which starts promptly at 8:00 a.m.

During the ceremony, any members of the Media who are interested in doing LIVE shots or recording LOOK-LIVE shots can be escorted by a Communications rep to one of the approved Secondary Media Areas.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Each day after CCS' remaining graduation ceremonies (June 5 -7), expect to receive a news release that shares special photographic moments captured during each of our ceremonies along with WOW! FACTS about our wonderful graduates!
Summer Meals are back!
Starting Monday, June 5 through Thursday, July 27, kids ages 18 and under can enjoy a lunch at no cost through Summer Meals 2023. No sign-up is needed, families are encouraged to stop by designated locations Monday - Thursday. The meals must be eaten on-site. Coffee Conversations Highlights 'All Things Summer'
During the district's latest episode of Coffee Conversations, Cumberland County Schools' Academic Services and Child Nutrition Services leaders join host Dr. Lindsay Whitley, the associate superintendent of Communications & Community Engagement, to talk about the district's 2023 Summer Learning and Summer Meals programs. LOOKING AHEAD -- June 13 Meeting of the Board of Education
The Cumberland County Board of Education will hold its June monthly meeting starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. The meeting will be open to the public via live-streaming available at https://www.youtube.com/user/CumberlandCoSch, and there will also be capacity-limited seating available to members of the public. During the meeting, citizens may share their public comments in-person only. Each comment is limited to three minutes with a total of 30 minutes set aside for public comments. Individuals requesting to share public comments during the public comment period may sign up using the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/ZGa8Q33DJMo3D9tH3, which will be accessible starting at noon on Tuesday, June 13, and remain open until 5:30 p.m. No walk-up sign-ups will be allowed. Citizens must sign up electronically in advance of the meeting before the aforementioned deadline. Documents, attachments, and presentations to be considered or received by the Board of Education will be available for review by the public at the BoardDocs site, which may be accessed through a link appearing on the Cumberland County Schools homepage under BOARD OF EDUCATION (BOE), at www.ccs.k12.nc.us. The meeting will be held in the auditorium of the Educational Resource Center (ERC), located at 396 Elementary Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28301.

CCS Educator Honored with Leaders and Legends Honoree of the Year Award
Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) students at Pine Forest High School and Gray's Creek High School were fortunate enough to recently visit the CIsco campus in the Research Triangle Park. The group was hosted by AOIT Advisory Board member Eli Gelber, who works as a systems architect and manages a portfolio of clients that include Cumberland County Schools and UNC-Pembroke. During the visit, he shared with the students a variety of topics like Cisco's product offerings, emerging technologies and an overview of careers that exist at the multinational digital communications technology conglomerate corporation.

The Women Veterans ROCK! Community of Women Veterans & Military Families recently presented SGM Ruby Murray, a JROTC Instructor at South View High School, with the legendary and prestigious “2023 Leaders & Legends Honoree of The Year Award” at the Union League Liberty Hills Golf Club & Conference Center in Lafayette Hill, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The “Leaders & Legends Honoree of The Year Award” is presented to distinguished women leaders who provide exemplary industry leadership, legendary community service, and create life changing results in service to humankind. "Your service to America’s Youth demonstrates a remarkable commitment to excellence in public education; creativity in civic engagement; and legendary leadership in your post-military community service," Deborah Harmon-Pugh, the national chair of Women Veterans Rock!, wrote in a news release about Murray's accomplishment. "You are a powerful role model – and – We Salute You!"

CCS' Office of Health Services recently hosted "Field of Dreams: Celebrating EC Students and Teachers" at schools across the district. Students enjoyed a field day full of activities while the teachers participated in a wellness fair!
On May 25, Gray's Creek High School (GCHS) hosted its first-ever Sophomore Half-Cap Ceremony. Tenth-grade students who have completed the minimum amount of credits to be promoted to their junior year in their graduation cohort were honored with a commemorative t-shirt. They were called up by name and presented with a commemorative lapel pin. GCHS Principal Lisa Stewart closed the ceremony with a charge to "press through to the finish line."
