Meet Cumberland County Schools' Class of 2023 Each year, CCS names a graduating senior at each high school as a Standout Senior. Our 17 2023 Standout Seniors are some of the brightest and most hard-working students who have overcome incredible odds to graduate and dedicate themselves to serving their community. Learn more about their plans to attend some of the top colleges and universities, serve in the military or begin their careers! E.E.Smith High School JROTC Cadets and Siblings Pilena and Dominik Khunsap are both planning to serve our country after graduation. Pilena is enlisting in the U.S. Army, while Dominik plans to become an airman in the U.S. Air Force.

Pine Forest High School’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) department recently hosted its first credential awards ceremony to recognize 335 students who received their credentials during the fall semester of this academic year. Some of them were certified with more than one credential, for a total of 547 certifications. Click here to access photos from the Ceremony.

Pine Forest High School (PFHS) has THREE (3) sets of twins in its senior class this year! They are all unique individually, but collectively they have excelled in a variety of ways and exemplified our multifaceted Class of 2023.
Kameron and Kennedy Pearson
Kameron and Kennedy are both talented scholar-athletes in the school's Academy of Information Technology, as well as National Technical Honors Society. Kam was recognized as the 910 Preps Athlete of the Week during varsity basketball season. Kennedy is also in the top 15% of the graduating class. The Pearsons plan to attend college together at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Johnnya and John Purcell, Jr.
John has been involved in our agriculture program, while Johnnya has been a shining star in the school's Academy of Emergency Medical Sciences. She has been working on her Nurse Aide certifications.
LaNaya and LaNiya Sinclair
LaNiya and LaNaya have been involved in PFHS' culinary arts and dance programs, respectively.

Summer Reading Book Rally Drive-Thru Event Cumberland County Schools is encouraging parents to bring their child and attend the 2nd annual Summer Reading Book Rally Drive-Thru Event for rising 2nd- and 3rd-grade students on Monday, May 22 from 4 - 6 p.m. in the Crown Coliseum Parking Lot. This effort, which kicks off a summer literacy focus, will give away free reading swag bags and refreshments to the first 200 students. In addition, Book Rally attendees will be able to sign up for a Cumberland County Library Card and receive free summer reading books to enhance the child's at-home library.

CCS Receives Recognition for Extraordinary Support of Military Students and Families
Four State Leaders Visit CCS During 'Bring a Legislator to School Day'

During the recent Fayetteville Woodpeckers’ Teacher Appreciation Night, several educators from Mary McArthur Elementary School attended the game and had 'a ball!'
Armstrong Elementary School recently held its second annual Girls on the Run (GOTR) event and the program's coordinators were proud to report that all 29 third-through fifth-grade girls finished this year's 5k run!
Fun was had by all at this year's Mardi Gras-themed CCS Custodial Appreciation and Awards Banquet! It was a heartfelt evening dedicated to recognizing and honoring the extraordinary work that our amazing custodians do across the district every single day. This year's Neil Brown Service Award winner was Darlene Jordan, who is pictured above with Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. Jordan is the head custodian at Howard Hall Elementary School.
