2023 Spring Evening of Dance TONIGHT!
Cumberland County Schools' annual Spring Evening of Dance will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the Crown Theater, located at 1960 Coliseum Drive in Fayetteville. Dance classes from all Cumberland County High Schools and Mary McArthur Elementary School will perform. The evening will culminate with a premiere dance performance by the CCS All-County Dance students. These students auditioned for positions in the All-County group and worked with guest choreographer Cara Dixon in preparation for this premiere performance. The event is free and open to the public.
Coffee Conversations TONIGHT!
Don't miss this month's episode of Coffee Conversations. It will highlight Kindergarten Showcase 2023, childhood immunizations, the May 6 Mental Health & Wellness Fair and the Month of the Military Child. This episode will air on Tuesday, April 25 at 6 p.m. on the district’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.
Education Day with The Woodpeckers
Cumberland County Schools has been invited to participate in the Fayetteville Woodpeckers’ Education Day Game on Wednesday, April 26 at 11:05 a.m. at Segra Stadium. The gates open at 10:05 a.m. Because of the district's partnership with the Woodpeckers, they are allowing CCS to invite several special guests to watch the game from a Luxury Suite. So, CCS Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr., has invited the following distinguished guests to join him:

Upcoming Board Committee Meetings
The Finance, Curriculum and Personnel Committees of the Cumberland County Board of Education will hold meetings beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023. The meeting will be open to the public via live-streaming available at https://www.youtube.com/user/CumberlandCoSch, and there will also be capacity-limited seating available to members of the public. Documents, attachments, and presentations to be considered or received by the Board of Education Committees will be available for review by the public at the BoardDocs site, which may be accessed through a link appearing on the Cumberland County Schools homepage under BOARD OF EDUCATION (BOE), at www.ccs.k12.nc.us. As these are Committee Meetings of the Board, there will be no public comment period, but public comments will again be shared at the Board's next regular meeting on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. The meeting will be held in the auditorium at the Educational Resource Center (ERC), located at 396 Elementary Drive, 28301.
Kindergarten Showcase 2023
As part of Kindergarten Showcase 2023, the district will be offering two districtwide Kindergarten Orientation Nights in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year. Elementary schools will host the events on one of the following scheduled dates: Thursday, April 27, or Wednesday, May 3, between 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. During each orientation event, families will complete the registration process, meet teachers, participate in classroom and school tours, and learn about school and classroom procedures. A schedule of each school’s orientation date is listed on the CCS website.
Upcoming Teacher Job Fair
CCS is hosting a Teacher Job Fair on Saturday, April 29, from 9 a.m. until noon at Gray’s Creek High School to recruit premier professionals for open teaching positions throughout the district. A variety of opportunities are available for teachers in year-round schools, ‘Choice Program’ schools, and the district’s ‘Early College’ high schools. For more information, visit the CCS Website.
LOOKING AHEAD: Children's Mental Health & Wellness Fair
Visit the district's first-ever "It's OK 2 Ask: Children's Mental Health and Wellness Fair" on Saturday, May 6 in Festival Park from 8 - 11 a.m. More than 40 local vendors will be on hand to provide community resource information, games, live fitness presentations, numerous freebies and more! Local Community Comes Together to Strategize Additional Ways to Make Schools Safe
South View High School student Dayoni Matthews (pictured far left) was one of 105 to win the $25,000 Horatio Alger National Scholarship. Scholars received an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to participate in the National Scholars Conference and Awards and were able to meet many inspiring people like Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft; Barbara M. Barrett, the former U.S. Secretary of the Air Force; and Justice Clarence Thomas, an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
In observance of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, employees at Central Services planted silver and blue metallic pinwheels on the front lawns of the Business Operations and Administrative buildings. The pinwheels, which symbolize the notions of playfulness, joy and childhood, have come to serve as a physical reminder of the great childhoods we, as educators, want for all children.
Elaine Vallery, a long-time educator at Pine Forest High School, was recently awarded the Skills USA Advisor of the Year Award at this year’s Skills USA State Conference.
JS2S Students at Luther 'Nick' Jeralds Middle School are took time to not only honor our military-connected students this month, but are also trying to draw attention to Autism Awareness and Pinwheels for Child Abuse Prevention! Beaver Dam Elementary School supported military-connected children and 'purpled-up' on April 21! The students and staff even wore stars and stripes, red, white and blue and camouflage all week long to let military-connected students know that they appreciate their service to the country, too.
