School District To Honor Two Individuals Who Unselfishly Give of Themselves
CCS recognizes those who work daily to support others
Fayetteville, N.C. – Cumberland County Schools (CCS) recently acknowledged two more individuals for their consistent demonstration of and commitment to CCS’ students, schools and core values — excellence, innovation, collaboration, equity, integrity and compassion.
During recent surprise visits, Educational Resource Center (ERC) Custodian Larry Moye received the February 2023 Extra Mile Award and Lindsey Awad and Manna Church were recipients of the February 2023 Committed Community Support Award.
The award recipients will be formally recognized by members of the Cumberland County Board of Education during their monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 14 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at the Educational Resource Center (ERC), located at 396 Elementary Drive/Fayetteville, NC 28301.
Extra Mile Award Recipient
The Extra Mile Award is designed to acknowledge employees who demonstrate a sustained high level of performance and inspire others to do their best.
Moye is described by his co-workers as "a kind, ever-humble man who is loved by everyone who knows him and is an excellent model of 'going the extra mile!'" Through multiple nominations, it was shared that Moye can often be seen at ERC walking women safely to their cars after dark and carrying their items without hesitation. He has even been called 'the legendary tire changer,' ready to help when someone has a flat tire in the parking lot.
Since the ongoing renovations to the Central Services building, ERC has become the venue that hosts many of the district's leadership team meetings, conferences, School Board meeting and award/recognition ceremonies. "Mr. Moye has demonstrated superb collaboration with various department personnel to ensure the meeting rooms are cleaned/sanitized and look great when guests arrive," said CCS' Custodial Services Coordinator Mario Caesar. "He has volunteered to work additional hours to set up and break down tables, chairs, and other equipment needed to conduct a successful event."
Moye's co-workers agree that he goes 'above and beyond' his duties daily and does so with a smile and a willing heart.
CCS' Associate Superintendent of Communications & Community Engagement Dr. Lindsay Whitley surprises ERC Custodian Larry Moye with the news that his co-workers nominated him to receive the Extra Mile Award!
Upon hearing the good news that Moye is February's Extra Mile Award winner, his co-workers at ERC rise to their feet to give him a standing ovation!
Committed Community Support Award Recipient
Manna Church volunteer Lindsey Awad and the Church recently received the Committed Community Support Award, which is presented monthly to an individual or group for selflessly supporting the school system and helping students succeed.
CCS' Exceptional Children (EC) department partners with Awad and Manna Church to serve as a job site in Manna's DreamCenter where EC students in the Occupational Course of Study (OCS) visit weekly to learn job skills. In December, Awad also worked closely with EC Community Based Specialist Krystena Stern to coordinate a holiday adoption of nearly 30 students in need as well as deliver food bags to OCS students at Ramsey Street High School and provide supplies, clothing, toiletries, etc., to students in need throughout the district. Stern said she's extremely thankful for Awad and Manna Church for all they do for CCS students and feels they deserve to be recognized as a committed community partner.
