Upcoming Student Holidays, Teacher Workday Cumberland County Schools will be observing the following schedule on Monday, February 20 and Tuesday, February 21:
Feb. 20 Student Holiday/Workday Traditional Schools, Cross Creek Early College School, Cumberland International Early College High School and Cumberland Polytechnic High School
Feb. 21 Student Holiday/Required Workday Traditional Schools, Year-Round Schools, Cross Creek Early College School, Cumberland International Early College High School and Cumberland Polytechnic High School
Cumberland Family Academy #TBT -- "All Day, Every Day Parents Understanding Their Gifted Child" Reaching back into the Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) archives this Throwback Thursday, the CFA session titled "All Day, Every Day Parents Understanding Their Gifted Child" will be streamed on the district's Facebook page on Thursday, February 23 at 6 p.m.
CCS, Fayetteville Marksmen 'team up' for College & Career Fair
The Fayetteville Marksmen professional hockey team, in partnership with CCS, is excited to once again invite 11th-grade students from the district to the College & Career Fair, which is being presented by Fayetteville Technical Community College. The event takes place on Friday, February 24 from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Crown Coliseum.
The students will attend the following breakout sessions:
- College Vendor Showcase – The students will meet and greet local and out-of-state school admission counselors, trade schools, and more!
- Panel Discussion w/Local Business Leaders – The students will hear from top industry professionals around the Sandhills about working in their career fields, their journey to success, and tips/tricks for getting ahead of the game!
- What Is Life After High School? – The students will learn about resume drafting, balancing a checkbook, and other skills that center around navigating post-high school life.
- Chasing A Career in Sports – The students will hear from the Marksmen and other local representatives around Sports & Entertainment who will discuss their paths, what working in the world of entertainment is like, and the importance of networking and internships!

Students Get Hands-On Experiences at District-wide Career Fair CCS' Career and Technical Education (CTE) hosted the "Skills of Tomorrow" Career Fair on February 10. Eighth- and 12th-grade students learned about the skills needed to enter the workforce and be career-ready. CCS partnered with Fayetteville Technical Community College and more than 100 local businesses to provide students with engaging, hands-on experiences.

Local SGAs Participate in Victory Junction Tour Day On February 4, the Student Government Associations (SGA) from Cumberland International Early College, Reid Ross, Cumberland Polytechnic, Alger B. Wilkins, and Seventy- First High Schools joined Cape Fear High School to represent Cumberland County at the annual Victory Junction Tour Day. Victory Junction, a medically safe camp for children with serious medical conditions, is the North Carolina Association of Student Council's state charity.

High School Juniors Attend RYLA Conference Massey Hill Classical High juniors Stella Martyak and Anna Caswell attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Conference in Pine Knolls Shores from January 28-29. Both students got the opportunity to hone their leadership skills and meet other student leaders from across the eastern part of North Carolina.

CIECHS Arabic Debate Team Competes in Utah A group of Cumberland International Early College High School (CIECHS) students recently traveled to Utah to participate in the 2nd Edition of the U.S. School Debating Championship, hosted by the Utah Arabic Debate Team. There were seven teams from across the United States and only two from North Carolina that competed. CIECHS, who won the 2nd and 3rd rounds of competition, was the only team from a public school. The Utah team won the competition, qualifying them to participate in the International Arabic Debate that will be held in Qatar. Even so, members of CIECHS' team said they learned a great deal and are already looking forward to competing next year! Members of the team are Leionne Chisolm, Mariana McCottry, Amaya Shabazz, Dasha Royal and Rana Nasser, who is the team adviser.
