Black History Month Spirit Week In observance of Black History Month (February 1 - 28), the students, faculty and staff at Ferguson-Easley Elementary School will be celebrating Black History Month Spirit Week while wearing the colors of the Pan-African flag, according to the following schedule: -Monday, February 13 - Melanin Monday (Wear different shades of brown.) -Tuesday, February 14 - Unity Tuesday (Black out for unity.) -Wednesday, February 15 - Progress Wednesday (Wear green for progress.) -Thursday, February 16 - Success Thursday (Wear yellow for success.) -Friday, February 17 - Freedom Friday (Wear red for freedom.)
A Black History program will take place on Thursday, February 16 at 9 a.m.
CCS Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Monthly Meeting This month's CCS Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Meeting will be held Monday, February 13 from 5 -7 p.m. at Mary McArthur Elementary School, located at 3809 Village Drive in Fayetteville. A Pre-K Specialist will discuss with parents the transition process from pre-K to kindergarten for EC students. Also, resources from Fort Bragg's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and Head Start will be available.
Monthly Meeting of the Cumberland County Board of Education The Cumberland County Board of Education will hold its monthly meeting starting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14. The meeting will be open to the public via live-streaming available at https://www.youtube.com/user/CumberlandCoSch, and there will also be capacity-limited seating available to members of the public. During the meeting, citizens may share their public comments in person only. As always, each comment is limited to 3 minutes with a total of 30 minutes set aside for public comments. Individuals who request to share comments during the public comment period may sign up using the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/ZGa8Q33DJMo3D9tH3, which will be accessible starting at noon on Tuesday, February 14 and remain open until 5:30 p.m. No walk-up sign-ups will be allowed – citizens must sign up electronically in advance of the meeting before the aforementioned deadline. Documents, attachments, and presentations to be considered or received by the Board of Education will be available for review by the public on the BoardDocs site, which can be accessed through a link that appears on the Cumberland County Schools homepage under BOARD OF EDUCATION (BOE), at www.ccs.k12.nc.us. The meeting will be held in the Auditorium of the Educational Resource Center (ERC), located at 396 Elementary Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
Chinese New Year Celebration Seventy-First High School and CCS' World Language Department are hosting the district's annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Thursday, February 16 on the campus of Seventy-First High School. Celebration-goers will have the opportunity to enjoy cultural presentations at 4:45 p.m. and the student performances get underway at 6:15 p.m. For additional information about the Celebration, email Communications at mediarequest@ccs.k12.nc.us.
Cumberland Family Academy #TBT -- Developing A Plan: College & Career Bound Reaching back into the Cumberland Family Academy (CFA) archives, this Throwback Thursday's CFA session is titled "Developing A Plan: College & Career Bound," which will be streamed on the district's Facebook page on Thursday, February 16 at 6 p.m.

School Administrator Makes Marquis Who's Who List District 7 Elementary School Assistant Principal Ignatius C. Williams was recently named to the Marquis Who's Who for "excellence in military, education and academic administration." Prior to his career in education, Williams served in the military for 26 years beginning as a human relations generalist in the 18th Airborne Corps and subsequently as the director of human relations and senior human resource manager.

STEM Skills 'Put to the Test' The eighth-grade science department at Mac Williams Middle School received a STEM grant at the start of the school year. Teacher Vickie Brigman led her students through a STEM-learning opportunity that required them to construct catapults. The winning catapult launched 49 feet!
Through an additional STEM-learning opportunity, Teacher Maria Fallon-Hale's science students competed to see who could build the highest tower using paper cylinders.
