February Observances in CCS As CCS prepares to celebrate Public Schools Week from February 27 - March 3, there is excitement throughout the month of February to highlight what makes Cumberland County Schools unique. From the district's month-long observances of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month and Black History Month to National School Counselor Appreciation Week (Feb. 6 - 10) and Love the Bus/Bus Driver Appreciation Week (Feb. 13 - 17), public education in public schools is a good choice. And in Cumberland County, it is uniquely the best choice!
Auxiliary Services, Student Services, Policy, Personnel and Legislative Board Committees to Meet The Auxiliary Services, Student Services, Policy, Personnel and Legislative Committees of the Cumberland County Board of Education (BOE) will hold meetings beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 7. The meetings will live-streamed on the district's YouTube channel available at https://www.youtube.com/user/CumberlandCoSch. There will also be limited-capacity seating available to members of the public. Documents, attachments, and presentations to be considered or received by the Board of Education will be available for review by the public at the BoardDocs site, which may be accessed through a link that appears on the Cumberland County Schools homepage under BOARD OF EDUCATION, at www.ccs.k12.nc.us. As these are Committee Meetings of the Board, there will be no public comment period, but public comments will again be shared at the Board's next regular meeting on Tuesday, February 14. The meeting will be held in the auditorium at the Educational Resource Center (ERC), located at 396 Elementary Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
Cumberland Family Academy #TBT -- Staying Marketable: Job Search & Resume Tips Dipping back into the Cumberland Family Academy archive, this Throwback Thursday, the CFA session is titled "Staying Marketable: Job Search & Resume Tips." It will be streamed on the district's Facebook page on Thursday, February 9 at 6 p.m.
"Skills of Tomorrow" In-Person Career Fair As part of the district's commitment to graduate successful students, the Career and Technical Education Department has curated a career fair for students to learn the necessary “Skills of Tomorrow." This event is designed to show students what skills are needed to enter the workforce so they can be career ready. The in-person career fair, which is open to 8th and 12th graders, takes place on Friday, February 10 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Crown Agri-Expo Center. Students will engage with over 100 industry partners and practice the skills needed to enter the workforce. They will learn skills such as how to change a tire, solve basic plumbing issues, CPR, proper lifting techniques, and so much more. Happenings Across CCS
Indian Education Office Gets Kudos for Strides Made CCS' Office of Indian Education and Director Rodney Jackson were honored recently by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and the State Advisory Council for Indian Education (SACIE) for their accomplishments during the past year. The Office of Indian Education, which strives to support and advocate for the American Indian students within the district, will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in September 2023.

Getting Pinned at SVHS Ladies of the View, South View High School's girls mentor group, recently held their Pinning Ceremony. During the special occasion, the Ladies accepted a charge, took a pledge and were pinned as official members of Ladies of the View, which focuses on community service and self esteem building. |
Local Museum Offers Unique Opportunity to JBHS Students Jack Britt High School and the Airborne & Special Operations Museum have partnered to offer students the unique experience of researching a historical military event and then designing and building a museum exhibit. Six students have volunteered for the project, which is considered an extra-curricular activity. This is the first time JBHS and the ASPO Museum have conducted this event. This project has provided students with the opportunity to learn about museums, historical events, and to build their research, critical thinking, artistic, and communication skills through tactile, visual, and auditory activities.
