A summary of events, activities and accolades occurring in
Cumberland County Schools (CCS)
All schools and buildings in Cumberland County Schools will close for Winter Break on Tuesday, December 20 after a two-hour early release of students. Staff will return to work on Tuesday, January 3 to prepare for our students’ return to school on Thursday, January 5.
Students at Lucile Souders Elementary dazzled a packed house during the Holiday Spirit Concert in their school's cafeteria on Dec. 15. The 3rd- through 5th-grade students sang various holiday songs.
Paul Young, Jr., an agricultural educator at Cape Fear High School, is one of 33 agricultural educators nationwide who received the 2022 National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) Teachers Turn the Key (TTTK) Scholarship Award, presented during the 2022 NAAE Convention (Nov. 29-Dec. 3) in Las Vegas. The Teachers Turn the Key scholarship brings together agricultural educators with three to five years experience and immerses them in five days of professional development that addresses issues specific to the early years of teaching agriculture.
CCS Academically-Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Program recently announced Sarena Myers as the 2022-2023 CCS Outstanding Teacher of the Gifted. Myers was nominated by her peers to represent the district at the 48th Annual NC Association for the Gifted and Talented Conference in March 2023. |

Fourth and fifth graders in Beaver Dam Elementary School's BETA Club have been busy participating in their Blankets of Love community service project. Beta Club Members have collected over 100 blankets that have been used to make fleece-tie blankets for residents in The Gardens of Roseboro assisted-living facility.
