Wastewater & Animal Waste Operator Renewals
and Fee Increases to Start Nov. 1
RALEIGH – Annual renewal season for Wastewater and Animal Waste operators will be begin Nov 1, 2025.
Operators will receive an invoice by mail.
You can pay online at: www.deq.nc.gov/renew
Paying online will give you a receipt if you put in your email.
You can also pay by mail.
To determine your continuing education needs, choose the AW or WW program and select the Renew dropdown menu for directions.
Fee Increases:
General Statute § 143B-279.19 directs the Department of Environmental Quality to adjust fees every 4 years beginning July 1, 2025. Fees are adjusted according to the Consumer Price Index computed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Some fees were adjusted in 2023 and that adjustment has been taken into account for this 2025 fee adjustment.
For Animal Waste Operators:
The annual renewal fee is $26.
The late payment is $52.
The examination processing fee is $90.
For Wastewater Operators:
The annual renewal fee is $53.
The late payment is $59.
The examination processing fee is $101.
Processing fees for temporary certificates, reciprocity certificates, and OIT conversion certificates have also increased accordingly. The full list of these fees is posted on the Operator Certification website under the heading “Fee Increases”.
