The Dare A250 “Liberty, Legacy and Lift-Off in the Land of Beginnings” Faire will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2026 in historic downtown Manteo and at Roanoke Island Festival Park. It's a signature community celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary that you won't want to miss!
This event will unfold across two iconic locations—historic downtown Manteo and scenic Roanoke Island Festival Park—to honor America’s 250th anniversary. Rooted in Dare County’s legacy as the “Land of Beginnings,” the celebration will bring together history, culture and community in a meaningful tribute to the nation’s founding, as well as the region’s enduring contributions to its story.
The celebration begins in historic downtown Manteo, where visitors can explore a lively, open-air festival atmosphere from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. No tickets are required for this daytime portion of the event, and attendees will enjoy live music, local vendors, historical exhibits, art displays, street performers, storytelling sessions and other interactive experiences that bring the past to life along the town’s charming waterfront streets. During this portion of the event, the streets of downtown Manteo will be closed to drivers to ensure the safety of attendees, so parking within downtown Manteo will be extremely limited. Attendees are encouraged to park in one of the designated off-site parking lots and ride the free shuttle bus to downtown Manteo.
As the day progresses, the Dare A250 Faire will transition from downtown Manteo to Roanoke Island Festival Park for a culminating evening experience from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Set against a scenic historic backdrop, the Star-Spangled Spectacular will feature performances by Just Playing Dixieland and the Earth, Wind & Fire Tribute, featuring the Ray Howard Band, along with the Dare A250 Grand Finale—a moving community choir performance paired with a multimedia patriotic production. This portion of the event is also free; however, advance tickets are required to attend. Just a few hundred tickets remain, so reserve yours today.
Together, these two unique A250 experiences form one unforgettable day—an immersive journey through heritage and innovation, created to bring the community together in celebration of 250 years of American history, while highlighting Dare County’s unique and vital role in shaping the nation’s history. Featured Video: Dare County’s 2026 Beach Nourishment in Avon and Buxton
Dare County, in partnership with Current TV, has released a new video highlighting the upcoming beach nourishment project scheduled to take place in the villages of Buxton and Avon on Hatteras Island in the summer of 2026.
The project, which is part of Dare County’s ongoing efforts to protect the shoreline, is designed to widen existing beaches and create a larger protective barrier between the Atlantic Ocean and critical infrastructure on Hatteras Island—specifically N.C. Highway 12. By addressing areas that have become hotspots for erosion in recent years, the nourishment project will help reduce the roadway’s vulnerability to storm surge and ocean overwash while also enhancing the recreational beach for residents and visitors.
As planning progresses and construction schedules for the 2026 beach nourishment project in Buxton and Avon are finalized, Dare County will continue to share updates on timing and active work areas at MoreBeachToLove.com. Residents, visitors and property owners are encouraged to watch the video on Dare County’s YouTube channel to learn more about how this important investment will help protect N.C. Highway 12 and support the long-term resilience of Hatteras Island’s beaches.

Meet Kate Jade!
Our Outer Banks SPCA Pet of the Week is Kate Jade! Kate Jade is an 8-year-old girl with a big personality and plenty to say! This chatty lady loves to “talk” to her people and will happily keep you company with her adorable conversations throughout the day.
Kate Jade absolutely loves attention and enjoys being the center of it. Whether it’s pets, cuddles, or just spending time with her favorite human, she's happiest when she's getting lots of love. Her affectionate nature and playful voice make her a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys a cat with a little extra personality.
Because Kate Jade prefers having all the attention to herself, she would do best in a home without other animals where she can truly be the star of the show. If you’re looking for a loving, talkative companion who will brighten your home and keep you company, Kate Jade might be the perfect match!
Are you ready to meet Kate Jade or other adoptable pets? Stop by the Dare County Animal Shelter, located at 378 Airport Road in Manteo, and click here to watch a video produced by Current TV. For more information, please visit OBXSPCA.org or contact the Outer Banks SPCA at 252-475-5620!
Outer Banks SPCA Adoption Hours:
Monday to Friday: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (closed from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. for naptime)
