The Dare County Board of Elections would like to share information provided by the North Carolina State Board of Elections regarding a letter that was sent to certain voters earlier this week. The letter was mailed by the State Board of Elections to affected voters in every county as part of a statewide Registration Repair process. This process stems from a lawsuit and subsequent court judgment requiring North Carolina to bring its voter registration records into compliance with the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA).
Following is the information provided by the North Carolina State Board of Elections:
While these voters’ registrations complied with the law and are complete, the State Board letters encourage the voters to update their voter records by providing their driver’s license or social security numbers or by ensuring the name on their voter registration matches other official government records.
This is to help make the state’s voter rolls more accurate and does not affect the voters’ eligibility. For additional information, read State Board Sends Letters to Voters with Unvalidated Identification Numbers.
The State Board of Elections and county boards of elections have received many questions about these letters. Voters with additional questions are encouraged to access FAQs here or contact the Dare County Board of Elections at 252-475-5630 or Elections@DareNC.gov for more information.
