What are “Auto-Renewals?”
With our recent upgrade to new software, we are now able to offer our library users automatic renewals of items as they become due. We encourage all of our users to sign up for email notifications so that you will receive a friendly reminder via email 48 hours before an item becomes due.
For materials that are not on hold for another library customer, your materials will automatically renew for another loan period - three weeks for most items and two weeks for popular new fiction. You will receive an email notice about the titles that have auto-renewed as well as their new due date. There is a limit of two renewals or autorenewals, meaning you can borrow an item for its original two- or three-week loan period and then have it for two additional two- or three-week loan periods as renewals.
As always, you have the option to return the items, call the library to renew them, or log into your account from home and renew them. From our online catalog at https://www.earlibrary.org/ you can access your account, renew items and place holds. If you have any questions, please call or stop by your Dare County Library location.
Click on the link to your home library branch below, fill out the form and click "submit." As soon as we receive your submission, we will add you to the request queue.
PLEASE NOTE: The lists are the same for all three library locations. It is crucial that you click the button below for the library location from which you borrow books.

Dare County Library Children's Bookmark Contest
There's still time to submit an entry for the 2023 Dare County Library Bookmark Contest. Bookmark entries must be received by the end of the business day on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
Children can decorate a blank bookmark with library-related pictures and/or words. There are four age categories (ages 2-6, ages 7-9, ages 10-13 and ages 14-18), and the winner selected in each category will receive a gift certificate to a local bookstore. The Dare County Library will print the winning bookmarks in color and make them available at the front desk of each of the libraries throughout the year. Observed annually to coincide with National Library Week, our bookmark contest is a fun way for children to get creative and show how much books, reading and the library mean to them.
For more information, or to pick up an entry form, please stop by any of the three Dare County Libraries: Manteo, 252-473-2372; Hatteras, 252-986-2385; or Kill Devil Hills, 252-441-4331.

The Lost Colony Souvenir Programs Digitized: A Dare County Library, The Lost Colony and DigitalNC Collaboration
You can now look at every Lost Colony annual souvenir program going back to 1937. While the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center, housed at UNC Chapel Hill's Wilson Library, had digitized most of the programs, their collection was incomplete. Thanks to the Lost Colony and the Digital Heritage Center's satellite location at Elizabeth City State University, along with Dare County Library, we were able to pool our materials and get every program scanned and uploaded. You can now find access to the collection through the Lost Colony website and DigitalNC, the Digital Heritage Center's online portal for archived materials.
