With the recent upgrade to the latest version of our specialized library software, our users now have several new and exciting options.
We all hate to waste paper. If you prefer, we can now set you up to receive your checkout slips with titles and due dates via email. On your next visit to the library, please let us know if you’d like to do this. We save on paper, and you can always refer back to your phone (or computer) to see what you have checked out and when it is due.
Speaking of when items are due, for years you have been able to sign up for email notifications - what we call a “friendly reminder” - that is emailed out two days before materials are due. Now we will be offering automatic renewals of materials that are not returned by their due date. Materials will renew for the same time of their initial loan period: three weeks for most materials and two weeks for new adult fiction titles. Automatic renewals will not occur for any materials that are on hold or on reserve for other library customers. If you are interested in automatic renewals, please let us know. We must have an email address for you to be able to do this.
If you haven’t looked at our new online catalog and your account at https://www.earlibrary.org/ please do so. We think you will find it much easier to navigate. Save this address to your bookmarks tab on your browser for easy access. You even have the option to change the language of the catalog to Spanish or French.
These are just some examples of the highlights of our new system. Take a few moments to click around and check it out. We really think you're going to like it!
Click on the link to your home library branch below, fill out the form and click "submit." As soon as we receive your submission, we will add you to the request queue.
PLEASE NOTE: The lists are the same for all three library locations. It is crucial that you click the button below for the library location from which you borrow books.

Kids Can Vote for NCCBA in March
This award is truly a children's book award - selected by the children of the state of North Carolina!
The North Carolina Children's Book Award (NCCBA) is sponsored by the Youth Services Section of the North Carolina Library Association. Since 1992, North Carolina's school children have nominated their favorite books published within the past three years. Members of the NCCBA committee select 10-12 titles from the nominated books in two categories: picture books and junior books.
During the month of March, kids can vote for their favorite books from the list of picture book and junior book nominees.
Look for the nominees at your Dare County Library, find eBooks and eAudiobooks available through the NC Kids Digital Library, or print the list here.
Voting starts March 1, 2023. Kids, cast your vote online or stop by the Kill Devil Hills Library to vote with a paper ballot by March 31, 2023.
Through March 31, school-age children can also nominate a title for the 2024 award online.

Third Annual Dare County Library OBX SPCA Collection Drive
What started as a way to help a community organization during COVID-19 lockdowns has turned into an annual event here at Dare County Library: our Third Annual Collection Drive for the OBX SPCA.
Donations can be dropped at all three Dare County Library locations throughout the month of March. On April 1, we'll deliver the collected items to the shelter on Roanoke Island for the fur babies who are staying there.
Don't know what to get? A General Wishlist of items as well as various donation options can be found on the OBX SPCA website. If time is an issue, you can also search their Amazon and Chewy wishlists to order and have donations shipped directly to the shelter!
