Rodanthe Bridge Now Open to Motorists; Dare County Shares Video Highlighting Ribbon-Cutting & Community Day Celebration
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced that the Rodanthe Bridge on Hatteras Island is now open to vehicular traffic.
The 2.4-mile bridge—which extends over the Pamlico Sound from the southern end of the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge to the northern end of Rodanthe—allows motorists to bypass the S-Curves, an area of N.C. Highway 12 in northern Rodanthe that is prone to significant ocean overwash and flooding.
On Saturday, April 9, 2022, NCDOT held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and community day to celebrate the completion of the Rodanthe Bridge, which had been under construction since early 2018.
