Residents are invited to attend the Sixth Annual Creek ReLeaf tree
planting on Saturday, November 23. This year’s Creek ReLeaf will
run along Irwin Creek at Whitehurst Road. The goal will be to plant 1,800 trees
to create a natural forest habitat that will help protect the creek from
damaging storm water runoff. Lunch will be provided following the planting and
participants will be entered into a raffle for some great prizes.
To reach the goal of planting 1,800, at least 400 volunteers will
need to participate. Encourage your friends and colleagues to register, and
families and children are welcome to join as well. Last year, 500 volunteers
came out and planted 1,800 trees, bringing the total number of Creek ReLeaf
trees planted to over 12,000.
Saturday, November 23 9 a.m. - Noon Along Irwin Creek at Whitehurst Road
Creek ReLeaf is a collaborative effort of the Charlotte Public
Tree Fund, Sierra Club, Central Piedmont Community College and
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Stormwater Services.
Please register at www.creekreleaf.com if you are able to volunteer.
Are you ready to enjoy your favorite family
recipes this holiday season? If so, once you’re done cooking those delicious
dishes, remember to dispose of all leftover foods - including grease and oils -
properly by placing them in a lidded container in the trash. Grease related
sanitary sewer overflows are a major issue for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility
crews each year, and they are preventable.
Facts about Grease Disposal
- Hot
water only pushes the sticky food further down the line to clog the public
system.
- Even
if you don’t cook with oils or grease, you still can have a grease problem.
Foods such as bacon and poultry create their own grease while cooking, and this
grease still needs proper disposal. Help your family cooks remember.
For more information about how to properly
dispose of grease, visit the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utility Department page.
