The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) basketball tournament is February 25 – March 2, 2019. Games on February 25, 26, and 27 will be at Bojangles' Coliseum, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship finals being held at Spectrum Center from February 28 to March 2. Motorists are advised to be prepared for heavy traffic on Wednesday, February 27 for Education Day. Approximately 120 school buses will be transporting 4,000 young students and parking around the uptown area for Education Day activities. Children will be walking from and to buses and various venues, and traffic will be very heavy.
The event begins on Saturday, March 9 at 8 a.m. at Symphony Park. Event organizers expect 1,000 attendees. The route uses Barclay Downs Drive, Scofield Road, Topping Place, Manning Drive, Ferncliff Road, Colony Road, Roxborough Road and Morrison Boulevard. Visit RunJenRun for more information.

The event begins on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 a.m. on South Tryon Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Levine Avenue of the Arts and will end by 11 a.m. Event organizers expect 2,500 participants. The half-marathon routes uses Camden Road, West Boulevard, Tryon Street, Park Avenue, Mint Street, West Third Street, Providence Road, Queens Road, Sharon Road, Runnymeade Lane, Colony Road, Roswell Avenue, Queens Road West, Kings Drive and Morehead Street. The race begins on Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. on Country Club Drive. Event organizers expect 250 participants. The route uses Country Club Drive, Matheson Avenue, Florida Avenue, Fort Street, Mecklenburg Avenue, Walnut Street, Kensington Drive, Chatham Avenue and Belevedere Avenue. The Charlotte Goes Green Festival is Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on South Tryon Street between Stonewall Street and Third Street. Event organizers expect 6,000 attendees. The Festival is a free event that runs before, during and after the Parade and is a family friendly event featuring live Irish music, Irish dancers, pipe bands, arts and crafts vendors, food and beverages plus children’s activities.
The St. Patrick's Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. on Ninth and Tryon streets. Event organizers expect 3,000 marchers and 45,000 attendees. The marchers will follow Tryon Street, make a left on Third Street and end at Caldwell Street.
The following streets will be closed on March 16 from 5 a.m. until 8 p.m.:
- Tryon Street between Stonewall Street and Third Street
- Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between College Street and Church Street
- Levine Avenue of the Arts between Church Street and South Tryon Street
