CROSS CHARLOTTE TRAIL UPDATE

A lot has been happening behind the scenes with the Cross Charlotte Trail.
Here's an update on the latest developments.

SEGMENT UPDATES

Brandywine Road to Tyvola Road - Planning and design work continues on this segment. A parcel at the corner of Selwyn Avenue and Park Road has been cleared for a future pocket park, which will provide access to the trail. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in mid to late 2019. The topographical features of this segment make it an especially challenging segment to build. This segment will connect with the Tyvola Road to Huntingtowne Farms Park segment of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, which is currently under construction by Mecklenburg County.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway: Tyvola Road to Huntingtowne Farms Park - This segment is currently under construction by Mecklenburg County, with the section from Tyvola Road to Archdale Road almost complete. The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Greenway Advisory County will host a community information session on Wednesday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Starmount Academy of Excellence multimedia center (7300 Starbrook Drive, Charlotte, NC 28210). It's your chance to provide input on the design and construction of the section that runs through the Starmount neighborhood and Huntingtowne Farms Park. This proposed greenway will provide connections to the Cross Charlotte Trail and the Carolina Thread Trail.

Cordelia Park - This segment is now open and a ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on May 3. The Villa Heights Community Organization was recently awarded a grant to install landscaping and furnishings along this segment.

North Davidson Street to Matheson Avenue - The public recently weighed in on the proposed alignment of this one-mile segment that goes from North Davidson Street near Cordelia Park to the Matheson Avenue bridge. Through in-person and online meetings that took place in May 2017, more than 400 participants commented on the amenities and features they prefer, such as water fountains, artwork, dog stations and lighting. View all the feedback here (PDF).

GENERAL UPDATES

Check out this cool new story map! The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute created an interactive story map of the entire Cross Charlotte Trail, which includes the planned route, updates on which segments are built or under construction and detail plans for future segments. View the map here.

Trail blazes are going up! - The first Cross Charlotte Trail blazes were placed along the Midtown section of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway (part of the Cross Charlotte Trail). More will go up as Mecklenburg County installs signs for its new wayfinding system.
