Meet at Peace & Justice Plaza at 12 pm and then march to 140 West Plaza for a street market with art vendors, drag performances, and opportunities to make your own art.

Adjusted Hours for Parks and Rec Facilities Start July 6
Beginning Monday, July 6, we'll adjust the regular operating hours of our Parks and Recreation facilities to better match the times community members use them and to ensure responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. “We know our facilities are part of the daily routines of many community members,” Parks and Recreation Directory Atuya Cornwell said. “Our team is ready to support our visitors as we all get used to this new routine together.”

Parking Lot Improvements Coming to Cedar Falls
Starting the week of June 8, contractors will paving the current gravel and dirt areas at Cedar Falls Park. They'll be working phases so at least two-thirds of the lot will be open at all times to minimize the impact on parking. We expect them to be done the first week of July, weather permitting.

New EV Chargers at Homestead Aquatic
Whether you're taking a swim, playing ball at Homestead Park, or skateboarding at the new skate park, there's an EV charger at Homestead Aquatic Center for you! We replaced two unreliable charging stations and added two more. Happy charging!

Update: MLK Jr. Blvd Overnight Resurfacing Starts June 8
NCDOT is now scheduled to start resurfacing the Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd./S. Columbia St. corridor between Estes Dr. and Franklin St. on Monday, June 8.
If you’re traveling in the area, expect some overnight delays. Crews will work Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. NCDOT is asking everyone to take it slow and be careful in the work zone no matter how you get around.

Gun Violence Awareness Rally on June 5
Wear orange and join the annual Gun Violence Awareness Day rally on Friday, June 5, at 9 a.m. at Peace & Justice Plaza. The event will feature brief remarks from Moms Demand Action, a joint proclamation reading, and the raising of the orange flag in honor of victims and survivors. NC S.A.F.E. will have information and free gun locks available.
In North Carolina, approximately 1,800 people die from gun-related injuries each year, while many more are injured or experience the lasting impacts of gun violence — tragedies that deeply impact families, friends, schools, and communities across our state.

Celebrate National Trails Day on June 6
This Saturday, we're celebrating our local trails with a self-guided trail walk to discover the "Faces of the Forest" art installation on Pritchard Park Trail. Enjoy this 1-mile paved and natural surface trail at the library on National Trails Day or any day!

On Tuesday, June 16, join us at one of two open house sessions in library room B to learn about what our Stormwater team has been up to. From 12 to 2:00 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m., learn about our Stormwater Management Plan, find out what stormwater projects are happening around town, and share your ideas.

OWASA Public Hearing on Proposed Budget and Rate Increase
Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) invites public comment on their proposed FY27 budget and 4% rate increase at a public hearing on June 11.
The proposed budget includes investments in projects that protect drinking water quality and maintain the integrity of their critical infrastructure. They'll accept public comments in person, via email, or via mail.

Council will meet for a regular meeting on Wednesday, June 10.
They're expected to:
- Consider the Final Budget and Related Items for FY 2026-27
- Open and Close the Public Hearing for the Downtown Municipal Service District.

Artist Call: Public Spaces 2026-2027
We invite Triangle-area artists and curators to apply for individual or group exhibits at Chapel Hill Public Library and Chapel Hill Town Hall. We'll hang selected artwork on venue walls for two-month periods, and each exhibit's lead artist or curator will receive a $300 stipend.

- NCDOT is upgrading the intersections at NC-54 and Westbrook Dr., Abbey Ln., and Kingswood Apartments.
- They expect work to happen between now and December 2026, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
