Monday, May 25, is a Town holiday. Most Town offices will be closed. Please plan for the following service and facility changes:
Trash Collection
- Crews will not collect residential trash on Monday, May 25. The makeup day is Wednesday, May 27.
Chapel Hill Public Library and book drop will be closed Monday, May 25. They will be open May 23 and 24.
Chapel Hill Transit will not operate on Monday, May 25.
Parks and Recreation
- Facilities open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Homestead Aquatic Center and Nate Davis, Sr. Gymnasium

A.D. Clark pool opens this weekend.
- On Saturday, May 23, it'll be open 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- On Sunday, May 24, it'll be open 12 - 5 p.m.
- On Monday, May 25, it'll be open 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Blue Sky Robotics Expanding Downtown
In 2023, UNC-Chapel Hill professor Steven King founded Blue Sky Robotics. Now, the company is expanding its headquarters in downtown Chapel Hill, creating a projected 152 new jobs over the next few years.

May is Affordable Housing Month
This month, we celebrate our commitment to expanding and preserving housing opportunities for all. With our community partners, we've added more than 50 new affordable units and helped maintain affordability for 200 units so far this fiscal year. Here are a few highlights:
- The completion of the 40th unit in Habitat for Humanity's Weavers Grove community.
- The first residents moving into the redeveloped Trinity Court, a former public housing community that now includes 54 affordable apartments.
- The first residents moving into EmPOWERment Inc.'s PEACH Apartments, a new 10-unit apartment community for extremely low-income households.

Pride Promenade is June 6
Wear your colors. Wave your flag. Walk with Pride! We’re kicking off Small Town Pride with the Chapel Hill Pride Promenade on Saturday, June 6. Meet at Peace & Justice Plaza at 12pm and then march to 140 West Plaza for a street market with art vendors, drag performances, and opportunities to make your own art.

OWASA Public Hearing on Proposed Budget and Rate Increase
Orange Water and Sewer Authority (OWASA) invites public comment on their proposed FY27 budget and 4% rate increase at a public hearing on June 11.
The proposed budget includes investments in projects that protect drinking water quality and maintain the integrity of their critical infrastructure. They'll accept public comments in person, via email, or via mail.

Artist Call: Public Spaces 2026-2027
We invite Triangle-area artists and curators to apply for individual or group exhibits at Chapel Hill Public Library and Chapel Hill Town Hall. We'll hang selected artwork on venue walls for two-month periods, and each exhibit's lead artist or curator will receive a $300 stipend.

Bridgepoint Subdivision - Rialto Rd. and Golden Gate Lane utility work April 29 - May 29, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Flaggers will be on site to maintain traffic within the subdivision.
Rosemary St. road closure OWASA is replacing an aging water main along W. Rosemary St., which will require significant road closures and detours.
Barbee Chapel Rd., Old State Hwy 54/Stancell Dr., Littlejohn Rd. at 54, and intersection of Barbee Chapel Hill at 54 road work March 9 - May 30, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Lane closures through the area. In some instances, flaggers will maintain traffic. In others, signs will be posted to direct traffic.
119 Bennett Way sidewalk closure Feb. 16, 2026 - Dec. 31, 2027, 24/7 The sidewalk will be closed to accommodate protective fencing around the property to secure the site during land-clearing activities and underground utility installation.
207-209 Meadowmont Ln. sidewalk and bike lane closure Present to August 2026 Drivers should remain alert to bicyclists merging into the main travel lane.
Long-term lane closure: S. Columbia St. UNC steam tunnel replacement Present to Dec. 2027 One lane will be closed between South Rd./McCauley St. and Cameron Ave.
Columbia St. Carrington Hall work Present to December 2026 A pedestrian detour is in place along S. Columbia St. near Medical Dr. as crews work on Carrington Hall.
NCDOT Projects
Pope Rd. near Beaumont Rd. culvert replacement NCDOT Project Details

Pope Road is closed with a detour from March 17 to June 5, 2026.
- The south end of Clark Lake Rd. is closed for approximately three weeks.
- Neighborhood residents will need to use the other end of the road to come and go.
NC-54 near Westbrook Dr. intersection improvements NCDOT Project Details
- NCDOT is upgrading the intersections at NC-54 and Westbrook Dr., Abbey Ln., and Kingswood Apartments.
- They expect work to happen between now and December 2026, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
