Stay Safe
The threat of ice in the forecast means dangerous roads, along with the possibility of power outages and the loss of heat. Please consider these tips as you plan ahead:
-
Gather essential supplies ahead of time. Have a gallon of water per person in your household for 3-7 days, along with non-perishable foods. Learn more here.
-
Stay off the roads if possible. If you must drive, slow down and leave extra space between your car and others.
-
Pack an emergency kit in your car. Include cell phone charger, jumper cables, blankets, and cat litter to help with traction.
-
Never use your oven to heat your home. This creates serious fire hazards and risks carbon monoxide poisoning.
-
Never use a generator or grill inside your home. This also risks carbon monoxide poisoning. Use generators outside and away from windows. Learn more here.
Please check on your older neighbors and loved ones to make sure they also have what they need, since they can be especially vulnerable during winter weather.
