Latest Closures
Eastgate Crossing remains closed to thru traffic. The shopping center is accessible from Fordham Blvd. for employees, construction crews, and for customers as some businesses begin to reopen.
Flooding significantly damaged paths on some trails and side paths. It is critical that community members do not go around barriers, as these portions of the trail are dangerous following the storm:
- Bolin Creek Trail closed between Umstead Dr. and the Community Center
- Morgan Creek Trail closed between S. Columbia St. and Merritt’s Pasture
- Fordham Side path is closed between S. Estes Dr. and Cleland Dr.
The following Parks and Recreation facilities remain closed:
- Umstead Volleyball Courts
- Community Center Inclusive Playground
- Strowd Rose Garden
Public Housing
We’ve been assessing storm damage at two Public Housing neighborhoods – Airport Gardens on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and the S. Estes Drive neighborhood.
We’ve determined that repairs are necessary in 37 units across both neighborhoods. This includes units which were evacuated Sunday night and units where damage was discovered during assessments.
We’re working to begin repairs next week. This work is displacing a total of 103 residents who live in the affected units. The Town is offering and coordinating temporary relocation at hotels for all affected residents until the repairs are complete. We expect repairs may take four to six weeks.
We know this is a major disruption for these community members and we are providing them a range of ongoing resources and support, including food and transportation.
