More rain and the potential for flooding is in the forecast for Chapel Hill today. A flood watch is in effect from 2pm today until 2am tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service.
“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas,” the forecast noted Wednesday morning. “Locations that saw significant rainfall from Chantal will have a greater risk of additional flooding.”
Police Chief Celisa Lehew urged community members to avoid traveling Wednesday night.
“We saw widespread flooding Sunday night, which means, no matter where you’re traveling, you could be at risk when heavy rain moves in,” Chief Lehew said.
A Town crew is out clearing debris from storm drains, culverts, and creeks in advance of possible flooding.
