Update: Suspect Charged in Carjacking Investigation |

Update (4/16/2025 2pm): A 16-year-old suspect is charged with Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon in this investigation. The suspect is in custody in a different jurisdiction following a separate incident.
Update (4/5/2025 6:45pm): The stolen vehicle was located in Durham. Investigators are still working to identify the suspect.
Update (4/5/2025 10:30am): The stolen vehicle is a gray 2017 Mercedes CLA 250 (pictured) with the North Carolina tag HEV-1901. Anyone who sees this vehicle should call 911. Do not approach the vehicle or its driver. Investigators are working to identify the suspect.
Previously released (4/5/2025 3:22am): At around 12:43am, the Chapel Hill Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking in the 100 block of W. Franklin Street. An initial investigation determined a man stole a vehicle at gunpoint. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Investigators are working to identify the suspect.
