Holiday Service and Facility Changes
Monday, January 20 is a Town holiday. Most offices will be closed. Here are some service change highlights.
- No residential trash collection. The make-up day is Wednesday, Jan 22.
- No curbside recycling.
- Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed.
- Chapel Hill Transit will run Sunday routes: A, CM, CW, D, J, N and NS. U and NU routes will not run. EZ Rider hours are 8:15 a.m. - 6:52 p.m.
- Parks and Recreation Admin Offices, Hargraves Center, and Teen Center will be closed.
- Community Center, its Indoor Pool, and Nate Davis, Sr. Gymnasium wil be open from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Meet Chapel Hill's New Poet Laureate
We're thrilled to introduce Chapel Hill's third Poet Laureate: award-winning educator, spoken word poet, and public speaker, Dr. Donovan Livingston. Livingston serves as Teaching Assistant Professor of Music and Director of College Thriving at UNC-Chapel Hill. With a passion for empowering young minds and communities, his work uses culture, hip-hop, and spoken word poetry to ignite change and foster student success.

$24.4M Awarded to NSBRT Project
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has awarded the Town an additional $24.4 million in federal funding for the NSBRT project, an 8.2- mile route along Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., S. Columbia St., and US 15-501 south corridor. It'll connect the Eubanks and Southern Village Park & Rides.

Community Center Park to Close for New Inclusive Playground Construction
Starting in early February, Community Center Park will be closed to construct a new inclusive playground. The playground design includes equipment that's accessible to children with a variety of abilities. While this park is closed, we invite you to enjoy one of our many other parks in town.

New Art + Transit Projects on Display
With the help of nine new installations in 2024, our collection of artistic bus shelters has grown to more than 40 pieces around Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Check out these Transit-related masterpieces.

Quilt Show: Sewing a Story
Local sewing enthusiast David Lyles and members of the Sewing a Story class are hosting a Quilt Show! Quilts they've made will be on display, and they'll share their sewn stories.

Flashing Lights at North St.
The intersection work at North St. and Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. is almost done. NCDOT needs to test the signals, which means they'll flash for several days. If you encounter red flashing lights, treat it as a stop sign. If you encounter yellow flashing lights, proceed with caution.

Learn about Your Local Government
Registration is open for our FREE winter session to inform and educate the community about Town services, projects, and processes. The Peoples Academy is one of many opportunities to learn about local government, connect with Town staff and community members, and engage on important issues. This session is both in-person and virtual.

Do Your Teens Need a Summer Job?
If your 14- to 18-year-old is looking for some summer cash, our Summer Youth Employment program is perfect for them. They'll work about 20 hours a week in different Town departments or area non-profits. They'll also attend career prep workshops to learn interviewing skills, resume writing, and more! (Must meet household income guidelines)

Human Services Funding Process Gets Update, Applications Due by January 17 |

We've improved the process for nonprofit organizations requesting funding for their community programs and services. Changes include:
