Holiday Service Changes
December 24 - 26 are Town holidays. Most offices will be closed. Here are some service change highlights:
- No curbside recycling on Wednesday, Dec. 25. It’ll be delayed by one day for the rest of the week.

Residential trash will not be affected.

Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed Dec. 24-26.

Chapel Hill Transit will not operate on Wednesday, Dec. 25. See calendar below for other impacts between Dec. 23 and Dec. 27.

Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed Dec. 24-26.

E. Rosemary St. Re-opens Dec. 20
Thanks for your patience, Chapel Hill! E. Rosemary St. is set to re-open after crosswalk work by Friday afternoon. Bad weather delayed the project, whose purpose is to improve safety for people who are walking from the new parking deck toward Franklin Street.

Register for Parks and Rec Winter Programs
Registration for winter Parks and Rec programs is open! Get a head start on Spring Break camps, find fun family events, and give competititive athletic leagues a shot.

Park Downtown for Free on Two More Saturdays
As you head downtown for last minute holiday gifts, there's a little relief for your budget: Downtown public parking is free for two more Saturdays in December! That's a full weekend of free parking because Sundays are always free.

Transit Rolls Out More Service
Starting on January 6, 2025, Chapel Hill Transit will roll out a series of significant service changes in response to customer feedback. These updates restore several schedules affected by the pandemic, add an important Saturday destination, and alleviate common delays on one route.

Artist Call: Art + Transit Bus Shelters
Start off the new year with a new work of art. We need more 2-D designs for bus shelters in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Artists must be 18+ and live within 40 miles of Chapel Hill. Finalists get $100 and selected artists get $500-600, depending on shelter size.

Human Services Funding Process Gets Update, Applications Open December 6 |

For nonprofit organizations requesting funding for their community programs and services, we've improved the process. Changes include:

Prioritization of Public Housing resident needs

Survey: Safe Routes to Schools
We're committed to improving connectivity and safety for everyone walking, biking, and rolling. The Safe Routes to Schools survey will help us identify current behaviors and perceptions of these methods This feedback will inform programs, policies, and infrastructure for our Safe Routes to School Action Plan.

Give Us Feedback on Wayfinding Signs
As we work on future plans for the downtown streetscape, we also want to help people navigate downtown. This concept is called "wayfinding." Give us feedback on wayfinding concepts and a temporary sign near 125 E. Rosemary Parking Deck.

Free Residential House Checks
Are you traveling for the holiday and live in Town limits? You can request a house check from the Chapel Hill Police Department while you're away. They'll look for things like damage to property or windows and entries that don't look secure

Crisis Unit Supervisor Sarah Belcher and Officer Tony Jeffreys sat down with WCHL to talk about Community Policing. The goal is to "get at the core issues of why people are struggling, trying to get them in touch with services within the community."
