A Walk to Inspire Positive Change
On November 14, our Safe Routes to School staff partnered with Northside Elementary to celebrate Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day. We celebrate Ruby's courageous and historic act of integrating an all-white elementary school in New Orleans by encouraging students to walk to school and engage in a day of dialogue about activism, anti-racism, and anti-bullying. The goal is to inspire kids to make positives changes in their school and community.

Council Recognizes Those Who Go the Extra Mile
At their Nov. 13 regular meeting, Council acknowledged that Chapel Hill is a community that has a special vibrancy when community members and staff "go the extra mile" in personal effort, volunteerism, and service. They recognized Linda and Brian Sanders, who are behind an effort that has so far filled over 1,000 bags of trash from our roadways and creeks. They also recognized the many Town of Chapel Hill staff members who have answered the call for service in Western North Carolina.

Seasonal Leaf Collection Continues
From late October through February, our Public Works crews are out collecting leaves every week. Three to six crews run continuous routes in town, making their way through each section, and completing all routes in a section before moving to the next. Here's some more quick info about this service:
- Find your section on this map
- Check this page for staff's daily updates
- Use this page as more of a week-to-week guide of the crews' schedule
- If your leaves are blocked or not otherwise accessible, we can't collect them. Leave them on the curb and not on the sidewalk, gutter, or road.
