 Secretary Christi Jacobsen: '220 candidate filings processed as of January 26'
HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen says 220 candidate filings have been processed by the Secretary of State's Office as of 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26.
"Nearly 30 candidates filed with our office this week for races ranging from the Public Service Commission to Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State House and Senate," said Secretary Jacobsen. "We're honored to serve those candidates and wish them luck in the upcoming elections."
To date, four candidates have filed to represent Montana in Washington D.C. – two candidates each for United States Senator and United States Representative 2nd Congressional District. Four statewide offices have also received a candidate filing – Attorney General, State Auditor, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and the Clerk of the Supreme Court. A pair of Supreme Court Justice candidates have also filed, each for the open Justice No. 3 seat.
Through two weeks of the candidate filing period, 174 legislative filings were processed – 35 for the Montana Senate and 139 for the Montana House of Representatives. Ten of the Senate races have at least two candidates, while 38 of the House races have multiple candidates currently filed.
All three Public Service Commission races have one candidate each – No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 – while 33 district court filings have been processed as of Friday afternoon.
In terms of party preference, 115 Republican candidate filings have been processed compared to 67 Democratic and three Libertarian processed filings.
