 Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen announces 2024 Annual Report fees will be waived for all Montana businesses
HELENA, Mont. — Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen announced on Friday that 2024 Annual Report filing fees will be waived for all Montana businesses. The elimination of the Annual Report filing fee will result in millions of dollars in savings for Montana businesses.
"Our Montana businesses work hard to provide services and products to their communities, and I want to make it easier to do business in Montana," said Secretary Jacobsen. "I previously cut registration fees in half for Montana businesses, and our state has experienced record new business growth as a result."
"I've said before, 'Montana businesses deserve less government deterrents,' and waiving the 2024 Annual Report filing fee is one more way we can support our Montana businesses on their journey," she added.
The Secretary of State's Office has increased efficiencies through its online business filing system, reducing review and processing time by the SOS staff.
Montana again experienced record new business registrations in 2022, with roughly 53,000 new businesses created according to the Montana Business Economic Report. Secretary Jacobsen announced earlier this week that new business registrations climbed again in May 2023.
Secretary Jacobsen was recently recognized and honored by the Mountain States Policy Center (MSPC) for her efforts in reducing red tape for Montana businesses. The MSPC awarded Secretary Jacobsen with the Elevation Award, which is the highest honor of the organization, “given to individual(s) who are committed to advancing and elevating free market principles and ideas. It is presented to a top innovator, business leader, or elected official in Idaho, Montana, and Washington.”
"Our local businesses are so important to their community and the state," said Secretary Jacobsen. "We want them to know we appreciate the goods and services they provide, the hard work they display, and the positive impact they have on our state."
