Secretary Christi Jacobsen notes Montana on pace for 3rd-straight year of record business registrations
HELENA, Mont. — For the third consecutive year, Montana is on pace to see a record number of new business registrations during a calendar year.
Nearly 50,000 new businesses were registered with the Secretary of State's Office in 2021, with almost 30,000 domestic limited liability companies created. Through September of 2022, more than 40,000 new businesses have been registered in Montana.
In comparison, just over 32,000 new businesses registered in 2020.
"The growth of new registrations continues to show that Montana is open for business," said Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen. "I'm proud to make doing business in Montana even easier by cutting fees in half, saving thousands of businesses an estimate of more than $1 million per year."
Through September 2022, Montana has seen higher registration numbers in eight of nine months, with March topping 5,000 new business registrations. August 2022 had nearly 1,000 more new registrations than August of 2021.
More than 6,000 new business registrations have been submitted from the Kalispell area, according to the Secretary of State's Montana Business Economic Report.
According to a recent press release from Gov. Greg Gianforte, "Montana's total employment hit a record high in August." The state's Made in Montana Program also continues to add new members, including 64 local businesses in September.
"There's a reason Montana was named the No. 1 state to start your small business last year," said Secretary Jacobsen. "With our reduced or eliminated fees, business owners can continue to follow their dreams in Montana."
"We're also honored to continue sharing the stories of the local businesses that register with our office in our Montana Business Spotlight series," she added. "As always, thank you for doing business in Montana."
