English Learner Fall Book Studies:

Academic Literacy and Math

What is the interplay between language development and the ability to conceptualize big ideas? Do teachers of every subject also need to be language teachers? How can language-informed teaching develop critical thinking skills?

These are the questions we’ll be tackling in the MELIN (Montana English Learners Instructional Network) fall book studies. The first, beginning October 26th, will cover “English Learners Academic Literacy and Thinking: Learning in the Challenge Zone” by Pauline Gibbons. A second book study will dive into “The Problem with English is Math” by Concepcion Molina on November 9th. Both groups will meet three times on Zoom and offer 4 RUs upon the completion of a book review.
