TEDRS USERS UPDATE

News and Reminders for Montana Traffic Education Teachers, Administrators, and District Staff

TEDRS Car

Dear users of the OPI's Traffic Education Data & Reporting System (TEDRS):

As you know, accurate and timely submission of the required forms and reports for your state-approved Traffic Education Program will help us process your annual traffic education reimbursement without delay.

TE01 District Application

Please remember to submit your TE01 District Application BEFORE you begin your Traffic Education for the new school year (classes that end July 1 to July 30). Your program must be approved before your start date and before you can enter a student list in TEDRS.

Summer 2022 courses that end on or after July 1 should be entered in the 2023 school year.

TE03/04 Student List

All student lists for the school year must be completed and submitted by June 30. Please check the following:

  • Instructor(s) names have been added to the list. You must click the button, Add Instructor, for the instructor’s name to appear on the list. This is frequently overlooked when there is just one instructor for a TE Program.
  • Make sure you have completed all the steps to show the course completed. The bar across the top of the student list on the screen must be all green.
  • Make sure you check and sign the Certificate of Completion AND check and sign the Reimbursement Request. You do not have to wait for a “district administrative official” to do this. All TEDRS users are considered district administrative officials.
  • When you have submitted a student list in TEDRS, OPI will enter your student count and you will be able to view and print a Student Count report in TEDRS. This is one of the reports you can generate in TEDRS to verify that your student lists have been received and counted.

TE06 Year-end Report

The TE06 Year-end Report is due BEFORE July 10 to guarantee your traffic education reimbursement is distributed in August. If you need extra time, you must contact the Traffic Education Office to request an extension, explaining the reason and when you plan to complete the required forms.

If your district has concluded all the traffic education courses that will be offered during the 2022 school year, you can submit your TE06 Year-end Report now.

Please note that this report was updated in 2022 and now includes the following new sections:

  • A place to record if you accepted out-of-district students and which districts they came from.
  • A place to record if you taught an online version of the Traffic Education curriculum and whether it was via Zoom, Teams, Google Classroom, etc.
  • A place to record if your district purchased one or more vehicles for your traffic education program. This expense does not need to be entered on your annual program expenditures budget page. If you do, it will inaccurately inflate your annual costs.
  • You will notice a re-ordering of the required and optional instructional units offered for your program. Please use this as a way to check that you are adhering to the program requirements and standards for state approval. If you are not, you need to contact the Traffic Education Office for clarification and advice for future programs.
  • It is your job to make sure your student lists are complete and submitted on time before you submit your year-end report. This report can be completed by anyone in the district with TEDRS access. You can print out the pdf version of the report and have the instructor complete the program section and then the district clerk or business manager can complete the budget section.

Changes to the TEDRS Users List

When you have staff changes in your district and need to remove or add TEDRS users, please send an email to Sara Fabian with the names of staff who should be removed and/or added. Include their name, email address, and phone number as well as the school district where they are administering and/or teaching traffic education.

CDTP Information

The online CDTP Refresher Course is available on the OPI Teacher Learning Hub. If you are a bit rusty about CDTP rules and requirements or are returning to the profession and need to know what’s new with the Cooperative Driver Testing Program (CDTP), take an hour to brush up on CDTP and how TEDRS can help you stay compliant and meeting deadlines. Every March the course is re-set for teachers wanting to take it more than once. And one Renewal Unit can be earned!  Hint: the enrollment key is CDTP. The course is free and open to state-approved Traffic Education instructors and MVD driver examiners.

Thank you for all of your hard work helping the next generation of Montana drivers to learn to drive with quality instruction and the opportunity to develop safe driving habits!
