Montana DRIVE

Montana DRIVE summer workshops

Come to Lewistown this summer for a fun and active behind-the-wheel workshop that improves driver skill and confidence. All drivers are welcome! Register by March 5 for an early registration discount of $10.00. Operated by the OPI since 1979, our professional driving instructors have trained more than 16,000 drivers in off-road recovery, skid control, and evasive maneuvers. Montana DRIVE summer workshops include two hours of classroom instruction and six hours driving vehicles on a safe, closed track adjacent to the Lewistown Airport. The one-day workshop is limited to 12 drivers per day. Teachers can earn up to 9 renewal units or one college credit when they stay an extra day to student teach. School bus drivers can earn 9 training hours toward their professional development requirements. The one-day workshops begin June 6 and end August 11. Registration for the adult workshops will open February 1. Teen Week is July 18-22 and registration for the one-day teen workshops opens in March. Visit http://montanadrive.mt.gov to view the 2022 workshop calendar and register soon.

Traffic Education instructor renewals-notices will be mailed in February

If you are a state-approved traffic education teacher and your educator license expires this year, your approval to teach traffic education also expires.  And while your educator license needs to be renewed by June 30, you have until September 30 to renew your approval to teach traffic education. Teachers who have earned their Traffic Education minor and endorsement only need to submit a TE05 Renewal Application.  Teachers still working toward their endorsement will receive a letter with the number of credits they need to have earned by September 30 and will be given options for earning the required college credit. Visit the Driver Educators page on the OPI website for more information and to submit your renewal application.

For assistance, email Sara Fabian or call (406) 444-4432.
