Evidence-Based Practices and ESSA Tiers of Evidence
Understanding how to select evidence-based practices is fundamental to an educational organization’s planning processes. Many people are familiar with research-based practices, but evidence-based practices are different. If you are a professional learning provider, you may be noticing that schools are also requesting information from your organization regarding how the professional learning you are providing meets the ESSA Tiers of Evidence. The OPI has created a short self-paced online course regarding evidence-based practices. The 2-hour course is available now.
FAQ of the Month: Do educators need pre-approval to earn renewal unit certificates for activities from non-approved providers?
Yes, pre-approval is required if a licensed Montana educator wishes to receive OPI Renewal Units for renewal unit activities from non-approved providers. When an educator locates a renewal unit activity from a non-approved renewal unit provider, the educator should:
- Verify that the provider is not listed on the OPI Renewal Unit Provider Directory. If the provider is listed, the provider is able to issue an OPI Renewal Certificate directly.
- If the provider is non-approved and the educator is employed with a school/district that is an approved OPI Renewal Unit Provider, the school is able to issue an OPI Renewal Unit Certificate on behalf of the non-approved provider.
- If the educator is not employed by a school/district that is an approved OPI Renewal Unit Provider, the educator is able to seek permission for renewal units from the OPI directly in an easy, completely digital manner.
