Traffic Education Reimbursement Payments - $113.36 per student for School Year 2020

The OPI will soon distribute $825,000 to school districts that offered state-approved Traffic Education programs during the 2019-2020 school year. Seventeen school districts requested extensions to complete courses that were delayed by the COVID-19 school closures this spring, and seven districts are expected to complete by the end of August (one in September).  All courses that ended by July 31 will be paid out in August. The later courses will be paid in September and October.

Statewide, we recorded a total of 7,278 students completing traffic education (last year 8,468 were eligible for reimbursement). District costs will be partially offset by the state reimbursement of $113.36 per student.

Traffic Education reimbursement payments fluctuate from year to year depending upon the number of driver license renewals and the total number of students statewide who are eligible for reimbursement. The source of funding for the state special revenue Traffic Education account is the Motor Vehicle Division of the Montana Department of Justice.

Reports showing the 2020 reimbursement payments by county and school district can be downloaded at the OPI’s Driver Education Forms & Reports webpage.

We appreciate your patience and wish you all a safe and healthy new school year!

Enter your TE06 now for summer-only traffic education programs.  No need to wait until next summer ...

Districts that only offer one or two traffic education classes at the beginning of the new school year (ending in July or August), should go ahead and submit their TE06 Year End Report for their 2021 payment when all the data is available (budget expenditures, etc.).

You can enter the report as soon as your student list is submitted and no other classes are scheduled for the year. There is no need to wait until the due date of July 10, 2021.  If changes occur and revisions to the report need to be made, we can do that for you.

You can always find the link to TEDRS on the Driver Education home page.

That's one more report you can cross off your list!
