MONTANA TRAFFIC EDUCATION NEWS
Traffic Education Reimbursement - $79.71 per student
Many thanks to the 133 Montana school districts that completed traffic education programs last school year and submitted year-end reports to receive funds totaling $675,000. The 2019 Traffic Education reimbursement will be electronically deposited in district accounts managed by county treasurers in early August. This annual reimbursement is made possible by a percentage of driver license fees collected by the Department of Justice, Motor Vehicle Division.
Reports showing the 2019 reimbursement by county and by school district have been posted on the OPI’s Driver Education Forms & Reports webpage.
- Deposit into Fund 18 Traffic Education Fund
- Revenue Code 3260 - State Driver Education Reimbursement
The amount of the Driver Education reimbursement fluctuates from year to year with the total of driver license fees collected. The FY 2019 reimbursement payment, compared to previous years, reflects the number of students and declining driver license sales, which is the source of funding for the state special revenue Traffic Education account.

Deadlines for Traffic Education Program Approvals
The requirements for state-approved traffic education programs clearly state that school districts MUST submit an annual TE01 District Application PRIOR to starting their traffic education program in the new school year. For programs starting in the fall, the deadline is August 1. All other programs should submit their TE01 as soon as they have program dates and traffic education teacher(s) set for the school year. We can make adjustments if dates or teachers change. Please read (and heed) the reminders for timely submission of your annual TE01 District Application and TE06 Year-End Report. We appreciate your cooperation!
