FWP releases proposed Statewide Fisheries Management Plan, EA for comment
Public meetings scheduled across the state
HELENA -- Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is releasing the proposed 2027–2030 Statewide Fisheries Management Plan and associated environmental assessment (EA) for public review and comment. The plan identifies statewide fisheries-management goals, priorities and strategies intended to sustain and enhance Montana’s fisheries and angling opportunities.
"The current plan sunsets December 31, so a revision is necessary to update and incorporate the most current information available into FWP's overarching fisheries management framework,” said Adam Strainer, FWP’s fisheries division administrator. “Proactive management revisions like this are the key to fisheries management in Montana, now and into the future."
Block Management information now available
HELENA – 2026 Block Management Program information, including the statewide overview guide as well as specific individual property maps and rules, is available at Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks offices and online.
This year, FWP’s Block Management Program will provide access to nearly 7 million acres of private and isolated public land for the 2026 hunting season. This access is provided in partnership with private landowners, other agencies, or conservation organizations.
Information on Upland Game Bird Enhancement Programs now available
HELENA – The Upland Game Bird Enhancement Program (UGBEP) Projects Access Guide is now available. The UGBEP administers more than 600 habitat projects on private and public lands, conserving and enhancing over 370,000 acres of game bird habitat while providing nearly 740,000 acres of hunting access for game bird hunters.
PLPW Advisory Committee to meet August 20 via Zoom
HELENA – The Private Land/Public Wildlife (PLPW) Advisory Committee will meet Thursday, Aug. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Zoom. Public comment will be taken via Zoom. To participate in the meeting and to provide comment, go to fwp.mt.gov/plpw and click on the meeting link.

Nonresident upland bird hunters start season 10 days later than residents
HELENA -- Montana upland game bird hunters have a 10-day head start on nonresident hunters.
As a result of Senate Bill 514, passed during the 20025 legislative session, nonresident upland game bird hunters using private lands enrolled in FWP hunting access programs -- including block management -- or hunting on public lands may not begin hunting until 10 days later than resident upland bird hunters for all upland species except mountain grouse (blue, spruce [Franklin] and ruffed grouse).
