FWP to host community bear meeting in Big Timber April 7
Meeting will focus on grizzly bear expansion in the area
BILLINGS – Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is hosting a community bear meeting in Big Timber on Tuesday, April 7, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the City of Big Timber’s Dugout at 208 E. 8th Avenue, across from Lion’s Club Park.
Though within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, grizzly bears had been uncommon in drainages near Big Timber, such as the Boulder River and Upper and Lower Deer Creeks, until recent years. Grizzly bear observations and conflicts in these areas have been increasing since 2022. In areas with new or expanding grizzly bear populations, such as the drainages near Big Timber, FWP hopes to connect with residents to provide information on living and recreating in grizzly bear country. The April 7 meeting will also include a question-and-answer session with FWP staff.
