Education and Training
EMS Week is May 18-24, and EMSC Day is on Wednesday, May 21!
Each year during National EMS Week, the EMS and Trauma Systems Section of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services provides an opportunity to recognize exceptional EMS personnel and agencies. This includes both volunteer and career EMS Providers, an EMS Agency, a 911 Dispatcher who provides Emergency Medical Dispatch, an individual who significantly contributes to EMS in Montana, and an individual who demonstrates excellence in delivering pediatric EMS care and/or education. The theme for the 2025 EMS Week is EMS: We Care. For Everyone.
The community, EMS providers, supervisors, and managers are encouraged to be alert to the opportunity to recognize outstanding acts and performances by nominating an individual or agency for an award. Award nominations are reviewed by a panel of EMS peers, who select the award recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony at the Montana State Capitol on May 22, 2025.
Please see the link below for the nomination form and additional instructions. The deadline for nominations is April 11, 2025.

As a thank you for their dedication and commitment to pediatric readiness, EMSC has shipped eighty (80) Field-Ready Pediatric Jump Bags to the EMS/Fire Agencies that completed the 2024 Pediatric Readiness Assessment (PPRP). [emspedsready.org]. This amounts to $64,000 worth of pediatric medical equipment and supplies. We thank the DPHHS Children’s Special Health Services Program for sponsoring and supporting EMS for Children.
Montana’s PPRP results will be available in the coming weeks. Our federal partners are preparing a comprehensive report detailing all agencies’ responses, a summary report and analysis of key data points, and outreach materials.
National results will be published in a peer-reviewed journal, which helps ensure the credibility and validity of this work. This is critical to achieving the goal of improving Pediatric Readiness in emergency care. In conjunction with the published paper, EMSC plans to create a supplemental national report focused on key data points and visuals most relevant to EMS agencies.
Please share your PPRP results with your stakeholders and emphasize that Pediatric Readiness is about progress, not perfection. This is our first comprehensive assessment of prehospital care for children, and it creates a baseline for future work and efforts. We encourage EMS/Fire agencies to use the PPRP Toolkit [emscimprovement.center] to get started.
TEEX MGT 439 Pediatric Disaster Response and Emergency Preparedness
The Pediatric Disaster Response and Emergency Preparedness Course has recently undergone a significant revision, to include:
- Use of student interaction through polling technology
- The addition of 11 new SME videos specific to each module being taught
- Revision of exercises
- New and enhanced material in ~ 40% of the class
- A pocket guide reference with important websites, diagrams, and QR codes.
The program continues to be delivered at no cost to local jurisdictions and course participants, providing them with CME for Physicians, Advanced Providers, Nurses, and EMS Professionals.
TEEX anticipates the program will be available for delivery starting March 2025. However, due to high course demand, we are now scheduling for 2026 and beyond.
If anyone, regardless of their clinical or educational background, is interested in hosting the course in their town or city, please contact Kelly Little at Kelly.little@mt.gov or 406-444-0901.
