Montana Association of WIC Agencies (MAWA) is seeking new members for the WIC Work Group (WWG). The WWG is a forum for state and local WIC staff to work together towards the improvement and maintenance of the Montana WIC program. It’s a great opportunity to have a direct impact on WIC services!
There are four small agency and one tribal agency positions available. WWG applicants are required to have worked for the Montana WIC program for a minimum of two years, have supervisor approval, and attend three meetings per year. If you are interested in applying to become a WWG member, please complete the WWG Application [form.jotform.com] [vmm0dj30.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me] by August 31, 2024. If you have questions, please email the MAWA board or Alex Bostrom at the state WIC office.

Risk code 603 – Breastfeeding Complications or Potential Complications (Infants)
- A breastfed infant with any of the following complication or potential complications for breastfeeding.
- Jaundice
- Weak or ineffective suck
- Difficulty latching onto mother’s breast
- Inadequate stooling (for age, as determined by a physician or other health care professional), and/or less than 6 wet diapers per day.
What WIC Can Do:
- Provide individualized nutrition education in an easy-to-understand format that is appropriate for the learning level of the participant/caregiver. Most education materials should be written for a 5th to 7th grade reading level. Be sensitive to the unique learning needs and style of the participant/caregiver, which may mean using food models, posters, and handouts.
- Provide referrals to medical providers, Registered Dietitians, Peer Counselors, Certified Lactation Counselors, and other services, if available, in their community.
- Providing individualized food packages, tailored to meet the needs of participants.
Promote food choices of high nutritional quality while avoiding unnecessary or excessive amounts of calorie rich foods and beverages and reducing inactivity (like decreasing sedentary TV viewing).
