The Missoula County Weed District (MCWD) actively promotes and encourages cooperation with local, state and federal partners beyond the boundaries of Missoula County to support research and education projects that advance the management of invasive species and promote desirable aquatic and terrestrial plant communities in Missoula County, the state of Montana and the Northern Rocky Mountain region
"Our mission is to promote and maintain healthy plant communities by minimizing the ecological and economic impact of invasive species through public education, technology transfer, and monitoring, and by facilitating the involvement of landowners and land/resource management agencies to control the highest-priority species in our most sensitive areas. To carry out our mission, the Missoula County Weed Board emphasizes the areas of coordination, prevention, detection, rapid response and control." -Bryce Christiaens, District Manager: Missoula County Weed/AIS Districts
The MCWD has been contributing to the UC3 since the commission was created in 2017, they play a critical role in the prevention of aquatic invasive species in the county and we greatly appreciate their continued dedication to protect our beautiful Montana lands and waters. In 2020, the MCWD was successful in creating and establishing Montana's first ever county AIS district in Missoula County. Additionally, the AIS district was successful in mapping and establishing fragrant water-lily as a county-listed noxious weed species! Tune in to the commission meeting on May 12th to hear more about MCWD, their work and the creation of the new county AIS district!
Thank you MCWD and keep it up!
