Notice of Potential Eligibility for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance
You may be eligible for unemployment assistance payments under the new federally authorized Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program. PUA covers individuals who are self-employed, seeking part-time employment, or whom otherwise would not qualify for regular employment compensation, including extended benefits under state or federal law or Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) under the CARES Act.
PUA provides up to 39 weeks of benefits to qualifying individuals who are otherwise able to work and available for work, under applicable state unemployment law, except that they are unemployed, partially unemployed, or unable or unavailable to work due to one of the COVID-19 related reasons identified in Section 2102(a)(3)(A)(ii)(I) of the CARES Act.
You are receiving this notice because we have reviewed your regular UI claim and determined that you have insufficient wage credits – wages reported by one or more covered employers under state law – to establish a regular UI Claim.
PUA is payable for weeks of unemployment, partial unemployment, or inability to work caused by the COVID-19 related reasons listed in the CARES Act beginning on or after January 27, 2020. Montana’s PUA program will recognize dates of unemployment, partial employment, and being unable or unavailable to work due to COVID-19 related reasons beginning week ending March 21, 2020.
PUA is not payable for any week of unemployment ending after December 26, 2020.
To apply for PUA, visit mtpua.mt.gov and click on “Apply for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.” If you previously created an account on MontanaWorks.gov, you still need to go to mtpua.mt.gov and complete the application.
