MDT Work in our Area:
I-90 – Bear Canyon to Jackson Creek: The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) is rehabilitating approximately 6 miles of Interstate 90 (I-90) between Bozeman and Livingston. The project begins at the Fort Ellis Road overpass and proceeds east through the canyon to the Jackson Creek Road Interchange (Exit 319). This week, crews will begin installing new rumble strips, guardrail, and signage in the project area. This is anticipated to take a few weeks to complete. Following installation of these items, construction may pause until warmer temperatures return to the area and a seal and cover (chip seal) can be applied to the pavement. Please visit the MDT’s website for updated information on this project. During construction:
- Traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction.
- Flaggers or temporary signals may direct traffic on ramps and crossroads.
- Speed limits will be reduced.
- Interchange on- and off-ramps within the project area will be temporarily closed when chip seal is applied to Interstate 90 (I-90) in front of the ramps.
- Wide loads may be restricted at times. Visit 511mt.net for the most up-to-date information on width restrictions.
I-90 – Belgrade to Bozeman: Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) crews will be milling and paving at night to minimize impacts on the traveling public. This work will require single-lane traffic and is expected to be completed between approximately 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Sundays through Thursdays. 7th Avenue and 19th Avenue exit and on ramps will be closed periodically during this project. Traffic will return to two lanes during the day. Please visit the MDT’s website for updated information on this project.
- Width restriction: A 15-foot width restriction is active while paving and striping operations are completed. Drivers who need assistance finding alternate routes due to the width restriction should call Motor Carrier Services at 406-444-6130.
- Reduced speeds: Please follow all posted signage when traveling through the project area. This includes paying attention to reduced speed limits and watching for workers near the roadway.
